Chicago is a a great city. I was lucky enough to visit in the summer of 2017 and I had the best trip. While I was only there for a few short days, I feel like I got to see a lot in the city. If you are looking for delicious restaurants or fun things to do, check out my recommendations.
RESTAURANTS and BARS
43 E Ohio St, Chicago, IL 60611
There are several Eataly locations all over the world, including New York and Florence (two cities I have blog posts on), and Chicago has a great one. My favorite part about Eataly is the atmosphere. There are several different restaurants thrown into the mix of an Italian food market. Stop by this location for great wine and an ever better meat and cheese board.
110 W. Illinois
Chicago, IL 60654
Sushi is one of my favorite foods of all time, so I was in for such a treat when my hotel concierge made a reservation at one of the best sushi restaurants in Chicago. My sushi was incredible and the vibes in the restaurant were so swanky and cool. Excuse the low quality sushi picture that follows.
The Signature Lounge at the 96th
875 N Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60611
This is the BEST place to go for drinks if you are a tourist in Chicago. On the 96th floor of the John Hancock building, the Signature Lounge has the best view in the city. The pictures speak for themselves and they have a great drink selection.
Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria
(tons of locations)
People in Chicago rave about the deep dish pizza and this is one of the best places to get it. While I was in the city I tried several deep dish places and this was by far the best one I had. Lou Malnati’s has so many different locations so choose the one closest to you.
Murphy’s Red Hots (Bill Murphy’s Chicago style hotdogs)
1211 West Belmont
Chicago, IL 60657
This is one of the most unreal hot dogs I have ever had. I am not much of a hot dog eater, but I would eat them more often if they were all like this. This is the type of dish that everyone has to try at least once in their lifetime and the environment in Murphy’s is so unique.
118 W GRAND AVE, CHICAGO, IL 60654
This is the most unique, creative, cultural and delicious restaurant I have ever been to. This Peruvian restaurant is so incredible and I am so glad that a friendly Chicago stranger recommended it. All three dishes we ate were mouthwatering. I would die to go back to Tanta!
676-8 N Orleans St, Chicago, IL 60654
This was one of the coolest speakeasy bars I have ever been to. The entrance is shelves on a random wall at the bottom of a pub, making the Drifter the ultimate hideaway. Inspired and located in a former speakeasy, this spot is a great place to visit while in Chicago.
Redhead Piano Bar
16 W Ontario St, Chicago, IL 60654
This was one of the most fun bars I have ever been to. I love to sing and I especially love classic hits played on the piano. I got to the bar at 9pm and I look up what seemed like a couple minutes later and it was well into the early morning. This bar transports you and allows you to forget about the rest of the world.
FUN THINGS TO DO
Go to a Cubs game
This is probably considered a cliche, but going to a Cubs game is an absolute must. I love sporting events, but even if I didn’t, I still would have enjoyed going to the game. Wrigleyville is such an extraordinary place and the stadium is packed with energy. Do yourself a favor and go to a Cubs game.
Another clique, but the Bean is super awesome. You will not regret stopping by the Bean for 5 minutes and getting a picture.
Walk around the incredible city
This is obvious, but Chicago has so much to see. I really enjoyed putting on some walking shoes and exploring the entire city. There is so much to see in Chicago.
Bobby’s Bike Hike – Chicago Bike, Walking, Kayak & Food Tours
This was my favorite thing that I did when in Chicago. We did the biking food tour which was so epic. We tried pizza, hot dogs, beer and cupcakes. We biked all over the city which flew by after an incredibly fun day. I will do this again next time I go to Chicago.
